Energising water could range from a slight ripple on the water’s surface to an intense blast capable of cutting steel. The aim of this project is to explore and create a new understanding of the base material of water by creatively applying existing or new, specifically developed technology.

To be worthwhile, design research from both an academic and commercial perspective must result in proposals that extend beyond the myriad of emerging bathroom fittings, where the focus is primarily on the hardware, to an understanding of the overall quality of the experience created through architecture, space, culture and ritual.

A potential starting point for research could be the fundamental issues related to the use of water in domestic homes - including the systems of collecting and storing rainwater, ducting it to a point of use, and disposing of the tainted water.

This project challenges students to confront these and related issues to create lucid visions of the future that utilize emerging technology, and the potential of manufacturing, to create a considered and desired culture within the home.
